Music for Manuela, a 10th Anniversary commemoration

Next Sunday evening , the 8th of October, St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church will host over eighty of the finest musicians and voices from the county. The gala concert will commemorate and celebrate the life of Manuela Riedo who lost her life in Galway on the evening of the 8th October 2007.

Proceeds from the evening, hosted by the Manuela Riedo Foundation Ireland, will go towards Galway Rape Crisis counselling services and The Manuela Programme, a national sexual violence prevention and education initiative for transition year students.

Among many special guests, Máirtín O’ Connor, the Cois Cladaigh Choir, young sopranos Aimee Banks and Clare Quinn and the thirty piece Coole Music Orchestra from south Galway will take to the stage in what should a memorable evening of music and song in memory of the young Swiss girl who’s death impacted greatly on the city.

It will also be a chance again for the city to show solidarity to all those affected by sexual violence and give thanks to those within the services who help to heal, prevent and educate.

Music and song has been at the heart of commemoration and fundraising by the Foundation over the last number of years. Manuela’s parents Hans Peter and Arlette will be guests of honour at the event. They are in Galway over the week to attend a number of events that will also raise much needed funds for the Galway Rape Crisis Centre and a number of key national and local projects and services.

Tickets for Music for Manuela are €15 or €40 per family and available from www.tht.ie. There will be a limited amount of tickets at the door and the concert will start at 7.30pm sharp.
