What a year forTeam Manuela in 2015!


The total we raised from dingle was 43,500 which is an incredible total. In the end we had a team of 400 people complete the race in the full and half marathon. Team members joined us from every county in Ireland and also from UK, germane, US, France, Switzerland & Canada. Team Manuela has now gone global!

Thanks to the team, support team and our team sponsors for making it happen. We achieved all we did as a team because of the amazing team members and also because of the people behind the scenes that gave so much support and their own time to the team. Thanks to our medical team, to Alwyn Thornton, Sonya Curran and Padraic McDonagh for helping the walking wounded for 5 straight hours after the race by providing massage to all the team members. Padraic did so, after achieving a pb in the half marathon. Kevin Nugent from Mr. Waffle for feeding us in Dingle (He is always feeding this team!) To Ken Corbett for all his help in the build up to Dingle.Thanks also to our team doctor David Boucher Hayes for all his help and support.

A big thanks also to our team mentor, who provided the right words at the right time in the build up to the race, thanks Gerry Duffy for all your support and it is great to have you back with us for 2016 as a team mentor once again.

To all of you, thank you for making Dingle so special. It is the sum of all our parts, of all our efforts, that makes this team such a rewarding experience. It is because of you, that we make the difference we make. I am honoured to serve and be on this team with you all.

Projects funded

As a result of the fundraising efforts from dingle as well as from all other fundraising efforts throughout the year… The Manuela Riedo foundation recently provided funding of 53,500 to various projects all around ireland.

The projects funded as a result of all your hard work:

  • 5,000 to north east rape crisis centre in Dundalk to train 10 volunteers to staff the helpline. This will keep the helping line open in the north east of the country for 2016.
  • 3,500 to the SATU (Sexual Assault Treatment Units) national day of learning in the Rotunda hospital. Bringing together the doctors, forensic examiners, An Garda Suiochana, rape crisis counsellors and other professionals for their national day of training.
  • 6,000 to Tullamore Rape Crisis Centre in the midlands which will be used to provide 171 counselling sessions for victims and survivors.
  • 11,500 to Tralee Rape Crisis Centre which will be used to provide 280 counselling sessions
  • 17,500 to Galway Rape Crisis Centre which will take 13 people of the long term waiting list for counselling at the centre.
  • 10,000 towards the Manuela Programme A national conference was held in Galway in early October where the Rape Crisis Centres from all over Ireland came together to begin what is hoped will be a national training programme to be rolled out to Transitional Year students all over Ireland that will be aimed at reducing sexual violence by empowering young people with the necessary education, skills and behaviours to do so.

Run Kinvara 5km on the 10th of January

Our good friends at Run Kinvara hold their annual fun run on the 10th of January in the beautiful location of Doorus, Kinvara. Any of you that were in Dingle would probably know the large group that took part with Team Manuela. They are a tour de force in everything positive that happens in their community. This is always a fun event with great refreshments after. Registration opens at 12pm on the 10th from Doorus National School. Adults 10 with children Free. Why not start 2016 with a lovely 5km to support some of our own team members. The proceeds from the run go towards the pitch development for Kinvara GAA.


Running trip to Switzerland

Pans are very much underway to bring a group to Switzerland to take part in the Fribourg which takes place on Sunday the 5th of June. The plan is to fly out on Friday the 3rd of June to Geneva.

Taking the train from here to our base for the weekend, the picturesque town of Murten which is 10 mins from the start/ finish of the race. We hope to visit the Riedos on Saturday the 4th of June and lay a wreath or team plaque on behalf of all our team at Manuelas final resting place. On Sunday we take on the 5km, 10km or half marathon race before returning to Ireland on Monday the 6th of June (Bank Holiday Monday). The approximate cost for flights, transfers, race entry and accommodation on a twin basis for the three nights is approx. 700 per person. Dingle 2016

We had such a wonderful experience in Dingle that we are going back to do it again. Dingle will be our main event again in 2016 and we want to make it bigger and brighter. We have once again partnered with Dingle Marathon as their charity partners and this means that our team members can avail of the cheapest registration. We will work to make the experience even better than last year, which is a tall order! For those of you that want to pin down that date in the diary now and get going on the New Years resolution for you or somebody else, why not register now at Training groups will start early in 2016 all around the country and information nights will follow.
